Patients with severe and/or long standing dysfunction of the veins can develop significant changes to the skin including skin thickening, wounds and ulcerations. While several factors are often identified, significant increase in the pressure of the skin veins (venous hypertension) is the main contributing source.
Symptoms of Advanced Vein Disease
- Skin thickening (lipodermatosclerosis)
Treatment of Advanced Skin Changes
- Often multiple treatment approaches are combined, these include: wound care and special multi-layer compression wraps (unna boot). A thorough evaluation of lower extremity vein function is required to identify the appropriate procedures to reduce the associated elevated pressure in the leg veins.
- As Alaska’s most comprehensive vein team we are able to provide advanced imaging evaluation and complex treatment options for patients with chronic venous obstruction of both the lower extremity, central and deep venous systems.
